Register a business in Berlin: the essentials
The responsible office is the trade office of the municipality where your business is based. For a business in Berlin, that's the administration that accepts trade notifications there. You must register no later than when you start the activity.
Registration uses the same nationwide form (GewA 1). We fill it in with your details, you sign on your phone, and we send it the way your office accepts. The trade office then informs the tax office and the IHK or chamber of crafts itself.
You need your ID card or passport, the business address and a short description of the activity. For a UG or GmbH you also need the commercial register number; if it's still being founded, the articles of association are enough.
If your activity requires a permit, for example as a broker, in the security industry or in a licensed craft, you need the permit or craft card when you register. We clarify this in the first question, before any costs arise.
